TOP 5 SECURITY TIPS

Use Keychain
passwords
When opening a new account for any
app or service, a strong password will
be automatically generated by Keychain.
We recommend you use it.

Set up two-factor
authentication
This requires the use of your Apple ID
password and a six-digit code generated
by one of your trusted devices. Make
sure this is enabled at all times.

Set up Activation
Lock
If your Mac has a T2 chip, turn it on and
hold Cmd+R. When in macOS Recovery
mode, tick ‘Full Security’ and ‘Disallow
booting from external media’.

Always require a
password
Never leave your Mac vulnerable.
In System Preferences>Security &
Privacy>General tick ‘Require password
immediately’ for peace of mind.

Run malware
checks
Get yourself some decent anti-virus
software, such as TotalAV (totally.com)
and run regular scans to ensure no virus
has breached your defences.

SYSTEM AND
DATA PROTECTION
A new security feature of macOS Catalina
can be explored by launching the Disk
Utility app. Whatever your Mac’s storage
device is – hard disk, SSD or Fusion Drive

  • it is now split into two volumes. The first
volume is the System volume (displayed
as Macintosh HD), which contains the

operating system files, and the second is
the Data volume (displayed as Macintosh
HD – Data). The System volume is set
to Read Only to prevent malware from
infiltrating your system. The only way this
volume can be changed is through an
update from Apple.
