To bypass Gatekeeper and open apps downloaded from the internet, Ctrl+click
on it and choose ‘Open’ and you will get the option to open the app.

In order to benefit from the new and improved Find My app, you must first ensure that your Mac is visible.
Here we guide you through the simple method of enabling the Find My features...

How to turn on Find My Mac

1

Open Preferences
Go to System Preferences>Security &
Privacy>Privacy and click on the padlock
icon. Now click on ‘Location Services’,
scroll down to the bottom of the list and
click ‘Details’ next to System Services.

2

Turn on feature
Now make sure ‘Find My Mac’ is ticked.
Go back to the main System Preferences
window and click on ‘Apple ID’. Click on
‘iCloud’ in the left column and make sure the
‘Find My Mac’ option is ticked.

3

Set it up
Click on the ‘Options’ button next to
Find My Mac and make sure that the Offline
Finding option is turned on. Finally, go back
to System Preferences, click on ‘Bluetooth’
and make sure it is turned on.

Another way to secure your Mac is to ensure you have complete control over what content can be accessed on it. Previously, this was
mostly done through the Parental Controls System Preferences, but in Catalina this has been integrated into the Screen Time section.

Secure your content

1

Turn on restrictions
Go to System Preferences>Screen Time
and then click on the ‘Content & Privacy’
option in the left-hand column. Next, click on
the ‘Turn On...’ button in the top-right corner
of the window to activate the feature.

2

Restrict content
Click on the ‘Content’ tab and you’ll be
able to limit web activity as well as various
Siri and Game Centre settings. To only allow
certain websites, click ‘Allowed Websites
Only’ and click ‘Customise’ to add sites.

3

Limit store content
Next, click on the ‘Stores’ tab to limit
what content can be accessed from the
iTunes stores. It’s a good idea to untick
‘In-app Purchases’ under Allow on iOS and
ensure that a password is always required.

4

Secure apps
Under the ‘Apps’ tab, you can restrict
access to your Mac’s camera and Books
Store and also limit which iOS apps can be
used, such as Wallet. This is handy if you are
prone to misplacing your iPhone.

5

Other restrictions
The ‘Other’ tab contains restrictions that
apply to iOS only, but this is still relevant as all
of your Apple devices effectively run across
the same eco-system. It’s a good idea to
deny changes to passcodes and accounts.

6

More options
Finally, click on the ‘Options’ button
in the lower-left corner and ensure that the
‘Share across devices’ option is ticked. It is
also a good idea to tick the ‘Use Screen Time
Passcode’ option.
