If you have documents you previously took elsewhere, make sure they are
stored in iCloud drive and they can be inserted into emails. Tap for the toolbar.

Step-by-step Email scanned documents in Mail

Create an email
Open the Mail app and create a new
email message. Suppose you want to email a
document. There are two ways to do this and
one is to tap the second to last toolbar button.

Scanning options
Tap the three circles icon at the top of the
screen to choose the type of scan. Although
colour scans are possible, often the Black &
White option produces the best scan.

Insert options
An alternative method is to tap in the email
message to show the toolbar and tap the right
arrow to scroll through the options. Second to
last is Scan Document. Tap it.

Select the document
Tap the big button to take a scan
in manual mode and the corners of the
document are marked. Press and drag them to
crop the scan. Press ‘Keep Scan’ or ‘Retake’.

Auto vs manual
The camera app opens and begins
looking for a piece of paper to scan. Tap in
the top-right corner of the screen to switch
between automatic and manual. Set Manual.

Scan or finish
If there is just one item to scan, press
Save to finish. If there are multiple documents
or multiple pages, put them in front of the
iPhone’s camera and then scan them.

View a scan
After taking a scan, a thumbnail image
appears in the corner of the screen. Tap it to
open the last scan full-screen. Use the crop or
rotate buttons to fix any problems.

Change scan format
Press the three circles at the bottom of the
screen and select a scan type, such as Colour,
Greyscale, Black & White or Photo. Tap ‘Done’
at the top when you have finished.

View and send
When the scan is complete, it is inserted
into the email at the current cursor position.
Check that it is OK, add more text above or
below if necessary, and press ‘Send’.
