Spotify has finally arrived as an app for Apple TV, lending the

platform some extra musical competition

efore Apple Music came along,

Spotify was the uncrowned

king of music streaming. It was

possible to listen to songs from this

popular service on your iPhone, iPad

and Mac but, if you wanted to do the

same on your television, you needed

access to Amazon Fire TV, Roku,

Samsung Tizen or Android TV.

Now there’s an official Spotify app

on Apple TV at long last (downloaded

manually or by enabling ‘automatically

install apps’ in tvOS for those who

have it installed on iOS). The move

follows a complaint made by Spotify

that Apple gives greater prominence

to Apple Music. So while Spotify’s

a rather simple app (and one that’s

since been joined by Amazon Music

too), it is very much welcome. After

all, healthy competition is music to

everyone’s ears.

Install Spotify app

Visit the Apple TV App Store and search

for the Spotify app. Install it, open and select

‘Log In’. Enter the pairing code in a browser at

spotify.com/pair (log in if asked).

Browse the homepage

Once your account has been paired with

the Apple TV app, the Spotify interface will

appear. Click ‘Menu’ on the Remote to see the

app’s options across the top of the screen.

Start to navigate

The homepage contains suggested

playlists under various categories so swipe up

and down (and left and right within a category)

on the remote touchpad to view them.
