  • honestly, check out the reviews on
the App Store. Hyper Light Drifter is a
    dazzling, action-packed reimagining of
classic 16-bit adventure games that blends
    fantasy exploration with edge-of-your-
seat survival. Well worth the £4.99 price
    tag. Devolver/Nomada Studio’s Gris, an
    emotional puzzle-platformer, triumphed
in the Mac category, while Wonder Boy:
The Dragon’s Trap by DotEmu won the
Apple TV award. As for the gaming trend
of 2019, that was named as Blockbusters
Reimagined thanks to the emergence of
    gaming heavyweights like Mario Kart,
Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty on iOS.
    That developer giants like Nintendo,
Ubisoft and Activision Publishing are now
staples on iOS goes to show that as device
    capabilities become better and better,
apps will continue to perform advanced
tasks that you could only dream of just a
few years ago. As Apple continues to pour
funds into the health sector, it’s worth
noting that apps can be life-changing too

  • as well as fun. All in all, we can’t wait to
see what developers have in store for 2020.

extent that it’s like writing on paper. A big
thumbs up from us. Meanwhile, the Mac
award went to Affinity Publisher from
Serif Labs. This magazine is created with
Adobe’s InDesign, but Affinity Publisher
does a great job at reaching professional
levels – that’s the biggest compliment we
can give the app – and at a one-off £33.99,
it’s way cheaper than Adobe monthly
subscription model.
Apple announced ‘Storytelling
Simplified’ as the app trend of 2019.
In a statement, Apple says: “In 2019, a
groundswell of apps helped us fill the
proverbial blank page with our memories,
dreams, images, and voices – and did so
with more power and personality than
ever,” before listing Anchor, Canva:
Stories & Video Maker, Unfold, Steller,
Spark Camera, Over and Wattpad for
special mentions.
In the gaming categories, Sky: Children
of the Light by thatgamecompany took
home the iPhone award, while Hyper
Light Drifter, developed by Abylight
S.L., was a deserving winner for iPad
