Noto – Elegant Note

ALTHOUGH CLUNKY AND devoid
of features initially, Apple’s Notes app
has gradually evolved into a decent app
that meets most of our needs, but there is still
plenty of room for improvement. Noto certainly
addresses a few of its shortfalls, although the
option to colour your pages is still despairingly
absent – don’t these people remember the fun to
be had with Stickies?
In Noto you have much more freedom over
what you can insert into your tables (including
images and videos), you can export to HTML,
PDF and JPG, and the interface is much cleaner.
Where the app really comes into its own though
is thatitcanalsodoubleupasawordprocessor.It has all of the text formatting tools that you
need to break up your chunks of text and, best
of all, you can highlight words or passages of
text and then click and hold to drag them around
and place them in a new position within the
text. This feature is also handy for re-ordering
your to-do lists.
Some features, including unlimited
attachments, are only available if you go Pro
(which costs £0.99 a month or £9.99 annually),
but you can at least enjoy the full suite of text
editing tools for free, which certainly propels
this app ahead of TextEdit as the go-to writing
app on your Mac and everything you write gets
