How we built

EVOLUTION
(1) During the brainstorm processing, we went
through a lot of old entertainment magazines
from the era and tried to find a style that felt
nostalgic and authentic without feeling too dusty
or old-fashioned. Even though accuracy was a
big priority, we didn’t want people to feel like
this was an old cowboy movie; it’s still a big-
budget, exciting drama. (2) For the ‘Letter From
the Editor’ page and the ‘$50 for a Haircut’
article, we used custom illustrations to make it
feel authentic to the era. (3) The advertisements
for in-world products were based on the style of
authentic ads from 1969 and included tongue-
in-cheek original copy full of Easter eggs for
hardcore Quentin Tarantino fans. (4) Each article
featured original in-world copy and interviews
with the characters, as well as photography and
imagery that was exclusive to our site prior to
the release of the film. (5) We also created a
physical print run of the magazine to be handed
out at the star-studded premiere and at 35mm
screenings of the film across the country.
