The Munro Legacy exhibition is at the
A.K. Bell Library, Perth until May 31, 2019.
Entry is free. It covers the biography of Sir
Hugh Munro, the growth of the ‘compleaters’
movement, the increase in the popularity of
hillwalking after WW2, the continuous rounds
(pioneered by Hamish Brown and Chris
Townsend among others) and more recent
times. The Grampian Club and the Cairngorm
Club have each been allocated a display
cabinet containing historical mountaineering
images and equipment.
The exhibition is presented by the Munro
Society, an organisation formed in 2002
and open to anyone who has climbed all the
Munros. Its purpose is bring together people
who are uniquely qualiied in their experience
of the Scottish mountains. Among its other
activities it offers informed and authoritative
opinion on the protection of and access to the
Munros and Scotland’s mountain landscapes.
It also monitors and surveys the mountains
and maintains archives.
