Ascent 460m/1500ft^3
WITH FORESTS on one
side and grouse moors on
the other, Craig Hill is a peak
of two distinct halves, the
summit itself a delightful
mix of the twain: gnarled
old pines and sheltered
clusters of larch dotted across
heathery ground, breaks in
the trees revealing vistas of
distant mountains.
With drizzle in the air, I
opted to approach through
the forest, setting of from
a small walkers’ car park
on Kenmore Hill, accessed
by a steep single-track road
snaking up from the village
of Kenmore, on Loch Tay.
From there it was a short
hike to Tombuie Cottage
where I joined the Rob Roy
Way, a long-distance trail
inspired by the adventures
of the famous cattle reiver
4
Turn R, leaving Rob Roy
Way, and ascend track.
Ignore track branching L and
continue up to quarry. Enter
forest at gate and proceed to
next junction.
5
Turn L and ascend track
for 1.3km.
6
Near top of plantation,
where main track swings R
through gate, fork L up rougher
track, exiting plantation at gate
above. Follow heathery track over
col to wall.
7
Detour L, ascending track
by wall to summit, then
follow track S.
8
Turn R along track to meet
road at stile.
9
Turn R and walk down road
back to the start.
