TRY THIS TRICK
I have been running for four years
and recently started to get pins
and needles in my toes. I went to my
local running shop and they told me
to miss out the bottom eyelets on my
trainers, as this relieves the pressure.
It did! Such a simple way to solve an
issue. Hope this helps others.
Evan Shanks, Kendal, Cumbria

Excellent – and amazingly
simple – tip, Evan. That’s
a new one to try.

LETTER OF THE MONTH

LAY WASTE TO

RACE RUBBISH

Runners, we need to talk
about waste. In particular,
gel sachets. Yesterday, I ran
the Brighton Half Marathon –
a scenic race that hugs
the beach most of the way.
Today, I walked along the
prom and was aghast at what
I found. Despite growing
awareness of plastic pollution
in our oceans, I spotted gel
sachets (and tear-off tabs)
all the way from Hove to
Brighton. I’m sure the organisers carried out
a sweep of their own, but I felt compelled to
litter-pick as I went. Fellow runners, please
take responsibility for your own waste.
Remember, a used gel sachet takes up less
space than a full one. So, it’s simple to
pocket your waste and dispose of it
responsibly after the race. That way, we

TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR RUNNING
Just want to say that I was really
touched by the inspiring and heart-
warming interview with Corinne
Humphreys [Run with Pride,
RW April]. As a member of the
diverse LGBTQ community myself,
I completely agree with Corinne’s
advice. Always, always be true to
yourself. Coming out can be hard,
especially, sadly, in the world of
sports, but it is ever so worth it.

can preserve these beautiful routes so we
can all enjoy them for a long time to come.
Who is with me?
