FATHER - I GOT IT

(dj33miles) #1
I never went to a professional barber until my rst year in college. A college football coach
demanded the I do so when I was 17. (Jealous of my 'Fro') In my lifetime, I've only had my hair cut
by 3 people. My father gave me haircuts until I was 17 years old.  He had a steady hand. He cut his
own hair. My second barber (One-time cut)) was a senior woman, glad to shave off some of my Afro
my freshman year in college. My third barber was my wife's hairdresser who served me Scotch
while attening my 'fro. I was 25 years old. Thus, like dad. I've been on my own for 40 yrs.

He taught me how to shave (One Blade). He taught me how to use Grecian Gray if I would ever
need to use hair dye. I would, at age 34, probably the same time he begin to keep his hair darkened.
I was also his only son of 4 who inherited his hairline or lack of. Lucky me...lol

I remember when I was about 13, my father was giving me a haircut when out of nowhere, my dad
smiled and asked me "Boy, you gotta girlfriend yet?' I said "yes", but I was lying. He knew. While I
was starting to get interested in the pursuit of pretty girls, I did not have a clue. I was a nerd.

Ironically, He offered no advice. While he certainly looked the part, I'm not sure if my father had any
advice to give. I think my mother was his rst or second girlfriend. My guess...

He was 19, she was 16 when they found love and wedded.

Anyway, the one-way girlfriend conversation ignited my pursuit of my rst girlfriend. Even though
my conversations with my potential girlfriends was innocent enough, (The 60's), my mother would
restrict my home phone usage at times. (Constant phone ringing) Thank goodness, my father never
put limits on my phone conversation. He was ne with my conversation aggression.

My dad never raised his voice to me about the phone.  Granted, my dad loved the sound of quiet,
He seemed to have a "Go Get 'Em" attitude towards me after that short girlfriend conversation,
even though we never had that "opposite sex" talk. I think all 4 of his sons missed that talk.

I don't think he knew what he would say other than "Figure it out". We both endured, like most
fathers and sons of the day...I gured it out...I think...

I would never have that talk with my only son...He gured it out...I think...I'm positive his mom, my
wife, might have shared that joyous speech, lecture, long joke with him and his youngest sister... I
certainly wasn't touching the daughter-dad spill...
