Converting to aida

Q

I want to stitch the lovely ‘Traditional Angel’ in issue 286
(Nov, 2019) which is shown on evenweave, but I would
prefer to stitch it on 14-count aida. Please could you tell me what
size fabric I would need and where to buy this along with the
threads and beads for it now SewandSo has closed down?
Alison Metcalfe, via email

A

Fiona says: The size of 14-count aida you would need is
the same as listed in the Shopping List for this project on
28-count evenweave – as evenweave is stitched over two strands
instead of one like on aida, the outcome will be the same.
Therefore, the design area will still be 30x21cm (11¾x8¼in), but
we recommend adding at least 15cm (6in) on to each dimension
to allow for framing. It’s such a shame SewandSo closed down,
however, you can still find everything you need at Lakeside
Needlecraft*, which stocks a great range of Zweigart fabrics,
DMC threads and Mill Hill beads, as well as charts and kits.

Q
Can you tell me where I
can get the John Clayton
miniature lady called Fleur?
Tracy Price, via Facebook
A
Hannah says: ‘Fleur
Miniature’ (MEFL1131) is
part of John’s ‘Elegance
Miniatures’ range for Heritage
Crafts*, where you can order
this beautiful design for
£18.55 with either 14-count
aida or 27-count evenweave.
Measuring 12x12cm
(4¾x4¾in) when stitched on
the supplied fabric, the kit also
contains presorted DMC
threads and a needle. Check
out your local needlework
suppliers too for stockists of
Heritage Crafts kits.
John Clayton’s ‘Elegance
Miniatures’ designs are
actually smaller sized versions
of his original ‘Elegance’
ladies. So, for anyone
wanting to see a bit more of
Fleur, you can buy a full-sized
version (JLFL1075) for £40.55
which measures 17x29.5cm
(6¾x11¾in), also available
on either 14-count aida or
27-count evenweave.
