Project Fa m i ly Tree

DESIGNED BY ANGELA POOLE

Branch out in your stitching this month to make a family

tree that’s inspired by precise and pretty papercutting

in history

F

amily trees are a lovely way
to record your clan’s history,
remember beloved relatives
and pass on information to future
generations. And with this stunning
design, you’ll create a work of art as
well as an historical document!
Angela’s family tree has an
exquisite feel that’s inspired by the art
of papercutting, created using white
thread on pale grey 14-count aida.
While it looks incredibly complex, it
is made with only whole cross stitch
and backstitch, plus a few French
knots. You can personalise each leaf
with a family member’s name using
the alphabet provided, and mix and
match the four heart-shaped designs
containing tiny flowers, birds and

butterflies. A white crochet lace
trim echoes the dainty stitching
and provides a pretty edging to the
finished piece.
You’ll find full instructions on
how to turn your stitching into a wall
hanging on page 42, ready to be
admired by everyone in the family!

As well as my passion for cross stitch I’m
also a dedicated papercrafter, so combining
my two interests in one design was so much
fun! I love the idea of making a family tree to
pass down through the generations.
