I experienced one day, almost giving my dad an opportunity to raise his gigantic hands
at me. Or in my case, he'd have to catch me.
Flashback: Years later, my younger brother Number #9 and I were having a loud
disagreement in the kitchen over pancakes one early Saturday morning, his quiet day
of rest.
I heard my father grumbling and approaching, he made a right turn in the kitchen and
immediately snatched my younger brother by the shirt. I was closest to our kitchen
back door.
I reacted quickly, I bolted out the kitchen back door to the back yard, ready to leap
over our back yard fence and run away from home forever...seriously, I was not going
back home.
I didn't know where I was running too, but I knew I de nitely wasn't going back to our
house.
Suddenly, I heard my father burst out in laughter and say "I almost got 'cha. Come 'on
back in this damn house" ...still laughing. That was de nitely a good sign, but was it a
trick?
After a few moments, I complied. Had I not, his anger might have reappeared..."I said
come back in this MF, goddamn house!" Sounding like Samuel L. Jackson. Again, I
didn't want to hear that twice. I returned from the fence's edge. No, it was not a trick.
You see, my father once said in reference, that he never spanked my butt and I never
remembered him doing so.
In eeing I was just trying to protect my perfect no-spanking record. Hell no. I didn't
say that to him.
