TOTAL WAR: THREE KINGDOMS
go.macworld.com/twtki

Long-running series tend to lose their vitality as they grow older, but Total
War is somehow getting better. In Total War: Three Kingdoms ($59.99), we
have a near-perfect strategy game that shows it’s learned all the right
lessons from its predecessors. If you want to battle through China’s turbu-
lent second century with Total War’s traditional tactics and statecraft, you
can. But if you want a dash of the fantasy you’d get from Total War’s
acclaimed Warhammer titles, pick the “Romance” campaign. Generals are
unprotected and almost like gods, tactics are deemphasized, and generals
can duel each other in order to turn the tide of a battle.
