While I can appreciate your
apprehension, I feel your fears are, as
DB126 puts it, paranoia. It appears you
assume your readers will try to get
away with something or have criminal

security system. But let’s get real here.
The average user is not going to be a
criminal.

The Supreme Court already ruled that
cops don’t need a court order to unlock
your phone if it is locked using
biometrics.

It’s not paranoia if they are trying to
get your face and everything else about
you on a hard drive to be used against
you. And they are.

In 1984, George Orwell wrote: “It was
terribly dangerous to let your thoughts
wander when you were in any public
place or within range of a telescreen.
The smallest thing could give you away.
A nervous tic, an unconscious look of
anxiety, a habit of muttering to
yourself—anything that carried with it
the suggestion of abnormality, of
having something to hide. In any case,
to wear an improper expression on
your face...was itself a punishable

But no one has access to my face as
recorded on my iPhone, and I can’t
stop or even be aware of my face from
being imaged and saved who-knows-
where-and-when. So I guess I’ll just
enjoy the great convenience of Face ID
on my phone and not worry about that
which I can’t control. Incidentally, not
noted in the article is that the Apple
face recognition can be set to always
require the user’s attention, greatly
decreasing the chances of accidental
unlocking. As described in the article,
the Pixel versions of Face ID are
insecurely implemented, meaning I’m
staying with iPhone for the foreseeable
future.
