Open the RAW and crop it
Open your RAW file into Photoshop and click andhold
on the Crop Tool at the top of the interface to openthe
options. Pick the one you want, 4 to 5 in this case, and clickShow
Overlay. Drag out a crop box over the image and use the corner
handles to resize it, positioning the focal point on a third line.

Open the sun star picture
With the converted RAWfile open,alsoopenyoursun
st ar picture. In the latter, pick the Rectangular Marquee
To ol (M) and drag it over the whole of the star. In the Optionsbar,
cl ick Select and Mask, and drag the Feather slider slightly rightto
so ften the edge, then click OK, and press Ctrl+C to copy.

Use the Graduated Filteron thesky
Press G to select the GraduatedFilterToolandthen
cl ick at the bottom of the sky and drag down a little.
In the settings, lower the Temperature to cool it off, and lower
Highlights and Exposure to darken it slightly. Move the Blacks
slider to the right, lightening the sky if it gets too dark.

Add the sun star to the landscape
Click onto your landscape document and press Ctrl+V to
paste the sun star into the landscape. Now, in the Layers
palette (Window>Layers), click to change the blending mode from
Normal to Screen. Press Ctrl+L to open Levels. Holding Alt, move
the Black slider right until you see black all around the sun.

Add a Graduated
Filter to the land
At the top of the Graduated
Filter panel click New and then click
on the landscape and drag up to the
bottom of the sky, so that the bottom
half of the image is now affected. Set
Exposure to a positive to lighten the
snow and ice, and set Temperature
a little higher to warm colours in that
area, in contrast to the sky. Increase
the Shadows slider to boost detail
there, and lift the Blacks too if you
need to even the contrast. Increase
the Clarity slider to make the most of
the foreground detail, and push the
Saturation slider to the right to perk
up the colours. When done, hit G to
return to the main sliders, make any
other final global changes you want
and then hit Open Image.
