Resize and reposition the sun star
With Layer 1 still active in the Layers palette (clickon its
th umbnail if not), press Ctrl+T to enter Free Transform.
Now use the corner handles to shrink or enlarge the sun tofit the
im age, and click and drag it into the spot where it should be–
above the highlight on the water here. Click the tick to confirm.

Add some warm colour into the scene
In the Layers palette, click the Create new fill or
adjustment layer icon and choose Color Balance.
In the panel, push the Cyan/Red slider right and the Yellow/
Blue slider left. Now, click where it says Midtones and choose
Highlights, then repeat this process for a warmer image.8
Brush back colour where needed
Click on the Layer Mask next to the Color
Balance 1 Adjustment Layer and press Ctrl+I
to turn it black. Pick the Brush Tool (B), and from the
Options bar, select a large, soft-edged brush, and set
Opacity to 100%. Press D for a white foreground
colour and then paint over the sun to add warmth.
Lower the Brush Tool’s Opacity to 10-20% and paint
around the sun and into the foreground to increase
the warming effect. If the effect isn’t strong enough,
repeat, reapplying the
settings and masking
to make it more natural.
Finally, add a Hue/
Saturation Adjustment
Layer, and increase
the Saturation to
enliven the colours.
Go to Layer>Flatten
Image and then Save

th e Dodge Tool (O), andin theOptionsbar,setit to
Hi ghlights, with an Opacity of 3-5%. Next, press Ctrl+J
to duplicate the background layer, so you’re working on
a copy, and correct mistakes if needed. Finally, run the
brush over the edges of the ice or other foreground
detail that would pick up the light of the sun.
