Watching giant Waves pound the
shoreline is as humbling as it is fascinating.
the sea makes for an enticing subject for
a unique breed of photographer – those
who are willing to take on the elements for
the chance to get somestunning
im ages of nature’s ferocious
beauty. andrew davidson
(i nstagram.com/
shandyboy159) is one
such photographer.
“as with many
other photography
enthusiasts, i most
enjoy taking landscape
im ages. the more dramatic
th e image, the better.Forthis
re ason, i particularlyliketo
ca pture the power ofthesea.it is a
dramatic force of nature,destructiveand
wi ld yet often beautiful. Late one afternoon
i was keeping an eye on the weather
conditions and forecast, and found the
wind, high tide and sunset were all aligning

in my favour. i immediately headed off to
seaham, county durham, to try my luck
and see what i could get. after an hour of
standing in the cold, and the sun hiding
behind cloud cover, i was about to give up.
“thewaves were impressive,
but the light was very flat and
uninspiring. suddenly, the
setting sun found a gap
in the clouds and cast
a fiery glow over the top
of the larger waves and
the lighthouse. the
contrasting light was
perfect. it was a very
brief moment and only
lasted a few minutes, but
i knew then that i had captured
something spectacular.
“i wenthome happy. cold, but happy.
When i checked this particular image, it
required very little editing. a little change
to the clarity and highlights was all that
was needed.”
