I underexpose images that have a lot of
dynamic range. If I’m just shooting in
mist and frost, I’ll keep the exposure
where it should be. Either way, once I’m
in Lightroom I’ll pull down the highlights
slightly and stretch out the shadows.
I’ll also make sure that the horizon is
completely straight and consider
cropping out any unwanted elements
at the edges of the composition. Once
I’m done with the general adjustments
in Lightroom, I’ll take an image into
Photoshop for some more targeted
adjustments to the highlights and
shadows using Luminosity Masks.
I also utilise the power of the Nik
Collection, especially Color Efex Pro 4,
just for the finishing touches.
