This image of the schooner ‘Opal’ was
taken in a remote part of north-east
Greenland. A harsh midday sun and
choppy waters are not ideal conditions,
and usually I keep my camera in my bag
on days like this, but the strong fjord wind
in the backlit sails worked well with the
wintry scenery to create an 18th century
polar explorer feel. As I was shooting from
another rocking boat, I had to make sure
my shutter speed was fast enough to
guarantee the image was sharp.
