What’s the best MacBook ever? It’s a
question that probably comes up quite
often when we think about Apple’s
hugely successful portable. It’s not an
easy one to answer, mind, as there are
lots of them to choose from. Ignoring
the fact that the MacBook branding
is technically still a bit of a youngster,
at only 13 years old, you’re also
encompassing devices such as the

the funky new kid on the block (in

many myriad color schemes. Then
there’s the Mac Portable too: a

that it was a bit of a behemoth, at 16lb, may be just one reason
why it doesn’t get the fanfare it really deserves, but the fact
remains: it started a revolution which lives on today.
But what is it about any Apple laptop that makes it worthy of
accolade? Is it new features that move the goal posts a little, like
Wi–Fi connectivity, or the sorely-missed MagSafe connector? Is it
the way they’re designed and built that matters most, such as the
distinctive polycarbonate clamshell form of the iBook or the
game-changing aluminium unibody of the MacBook 2008? Is it
their performance; maybe good old battery longevity does it for
you? Or perhaps it’s something less tangible — the way owning
one makes you feel, or the impact it has on your everyday life?
What do you think? Let me know at [email protected].
Whatever it may be, Apple has certainly had its fair share of
greatest hits, but what of the new MacBook Pro 16–inch, featured
on this very cover, then? While I’ll admit this isn’t a revolution in

much right that it’s hard to not to big it up. In Apple’s own words
to its fans, it’s “more of what they love”, and that’s certainly the
case here: a bigger and better screen, a scissor switch keyboard

oodles of performance under the hood. Check out the review of (in
