FoodNoms

Powerful nutrition tracking

Free (IAPs) From Algebraic Labs, foodnoms.com
Made for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch Needs iOS 13.0 or later

At this time
of year many of
us decide to
improve our diet.
Unfortunately monitoring
your nutrition can be
a tedious process, but
FoodNoms hopes to change
that. By making everything
faster, easier and more useful
it can help motivate you to
analyze your intake and make
positive changes.
FoodNoms looks a lot like
Apple’s Health app, with
which it can share data. For
example, it can use the active
energy data from your Move
progress rings to adjust your
calorie goal for the rest of the
day, and it can tell Health
about your vitamin and
mineral intake. The interface
looks great on iPhone and
supports Dark Mode but it
feels a bit lost on iPad, where
there’s lots of empty space.

FOODNOMS
Label scanning and food database
Excellent Health app integration
Scanning can be slow
Sparse iPad interface
GREAT

FoodNoms
can scan the
nutrition labels
on packets to
save you typing
them in.

The FoodNoms app enables
you to set a wide range of
nutritional goals, covering
everything from energy to
hydration. The free app lets
you target calories but if you
unlock the full feature set
($1.99 a month or $16.99
a year) you can monitor

At heart the app is a food
log and you can enter data
in two ways: manually; by
searching the app’s food
database, which makes good
use of predictive text to speed
up searching; or by using
your device’s camera. For the
latter option it’s just a matter
of scanning the food’s
nutrition label, which is
generally impressive if a bit
slow. You’ll get best results

high-contrast labels: we
struggled to scan curved
packaging such as tin cans.
You can add data quickly via
Siri Shortcuts, and as you use
the app its Smart Suggestions
provide quick access to
commonly entered foods.
FoodNoms’ data isn’t just
for goal tracking. It can
provide insights into your
eating habits too, so for

example you can see if you’ve
been overly good to yourself
or if you’re falling into a bit
of a food rut. If you’re already

goals on your phone, this is
an excellent companion.
THE BOTTOM LINE. Makes
food logging easier and more
useful. CARRIE MARSHALL

Free users can only set calorie goals,
subscribers can track almost anything.
