“Initially,thisblockwasa patternforoneofmyworkshops,wherestudents
wouldlearntomakea ‘scrapbagcushioncover’.A quiltversionseemedthe
mostobviousnextstep,andbecameanoptionforthestudentstakingthe
workshoptoprogresswiththeirskills.I enjoyworkingwithscrapfabrics
andI havea largeaccumulationhoardedfromwayback,ocutsfrom
dressmakingprojectsorpiecesleftoverfrompreviousquilts.I trytoblend
andmatchthecoloursandpatternsintoa harmoniouscollection.Eachof
theblocksforthisquiltdrawsfromelementsandmotifstakenfromthe
traditionalquiltpatterns,suchashalf-andquarter-squaretriangles,sawtooth
edgingandFlyingGeese.Theheartmotifwasaddedtocompletetheoverall
design.Whenmakingeachunit,whynotchoosea varietyofcoloursand
