BARGELLO SIZE

Thesizeofa finishedBargellopiecedependson

thelengthofthecutstrips(whenuntidyends

havebeentrimmedo) andthecutwidthofthe

stripsetsoncecombinedtogether(seeFig 13 ). If

theBargelloneedstofita specificarea,thenyou

willneedtobearthisinmindwhen choosing the

cut widths of your strip sets.

FloatingBargello

AnotherwayofcreatingBargellopatchworkis withinitialstrip

piecing,asbefore,butwithadditionalpiecesoffabricadded

aboveandbelowtheunit(Fig 14 ). Thismethodis notformed

intoa tubeanddoescreatesomefabricwastage.I callthis

method‘floating’Bargelloandliketouseit occasionallytoallow

metomovethestripsaboutfreely,andso,theBargello‘floats’

ina seaofbackgroundfabric.It’salsointerestingtorotatesome

sectionsoftheBargelloby180-degrees.Oncethepatternis

formed and sewn, the excess fabric is trimmed o(Fig 15 ).

Addingembellishments

Bargellocanbeembellishedwithdecorativetrims.Todothis,

sewthetrimsalongthefabricstripsbeforethestrip-piecedunit

is cutup(Fig 16 ). Thecutendsofthetrimsaresealedintothe

seamswhenthesegmentsaresewntogether.Youcanalso add

beads to Bargello, after the pattern is sewn together.
