Usingtheinnerbroken
linesonyourtemplates,
tracepatternpiecesontothe
paper side of some fusible web.

Pressfusiblewebontothe
wrongsideofyour fabric,
paper side up.

Carefullycutouttheshape
usingsmall,sharpscissors
andpeelawaythepaper.Place
ontopoftherightsideofthe
backgroundsquare,matching
withthepattern,andthe
fusiblewebfacingbackground
fabric.Presstoadherethe
shape to the background.

Whenallshapesarefixed
inplace,sewa neattop
stitch,blanketstitchorsatin
stitchclosetotheedge all
around each shape.

PRETTYPLUMAGE
“Ifirststitcheda littlebluetitaspartoftheA MonthintheCountryblockof
themonthquiltthatI designedforToday’sQuiltera fewyearsago.It proved
tobea hugesuccessandI turnedit intoa workshopproject.Sincethen,I
haveappliquédmanybluetitsandfinallydecidedthatI shouldbranchout
withsomeotherBritishgardenbirds.So,forthispillow,I haveenlarged
theoriginalbluetitpatternandaddeda bullfinch,withhisbeautifulbright
plumage,anda goldcrest,oursmallestgardenbird.I triedhardtokeepthe
correctscaleofsizebetweenthethreebirds,thoughI amnot sure they would
all sit so close together in a tree in real life!”–Jo Avery
