The ROI Paint Live event is organised by the Royal Institute of Oil Painters to
coincide with its annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London held at the
end of each year. The 2019 Paint Live event was once again well attended,
seeing artists painting London scenes within a half-mile radius of the galleries
to compete in the event. First prize was awarded to Carol Owen, pictured
(above) holding her winning painting and (left) working in the busy London
streets. Carol wins a £250 art materials’ voucher donated by Cass Art. Second
prize was awarded to Rod Major and third prize went to Ian Layton. Both
received £50 art materials’ vouchers from Cass Art. Pictured above with Carol

The Lightbox, Woking, spans six decades of Hockney’s
work and explores the whole range of media – from
painting, drawing and printmaking to photography,
designs for the stage and digital technologies,
such as the iPad, Photoshop and inkjet processes.
The exhibition includes photographs of the artist
working in his studio. A hands-on learning activity
will run throughout the exhibition in the main gallery
enabling children and families to engage with the
artwork, and as part of ‘Hockney Week’ in February half
term, children are invited to contribute towards a large
mosaic-style artwork, relecting the artist’s processes.
