At this point I was working on the foreground, looking for
the colours in the heather and wild grasses. This stage was
done with as much vigour as possible – I applied the paint
with large sweeps, as rapidly as possible, so that the energetic
application contrasted with the background

Lighter colours in the foreground helped to bring it forward and
provide contrast to the darks. After two hours I was nished. I will store
the painting and bring it out weeks or months later to consider, without
my ego getting in the way, whether I should keep it or paint over it
