Choosea templateandtracearound
it onthepapersideofa pieceof
fusibleweb(FigA).If yourtemplate
is notsymmetrical,makesuretoturnit
overtotracea mirrorimageversionof
thetemplate.Usepaperscissorstocut
roughly around the traced shape.

Placethetracedshapeonthewrong
sideofyourfabric,withthepaperside
upandthestickywebsideagainstthe
fabric.Followingthemanufacturer’s
instructions, fuse the web to the fabric
(FigB).Youmaywanttousea pressing
sheetto protect your iron.

Allowyourfabrictocool.Oncecool,
usea sharppairofscissorstocutout
yourshapealongthedrawnline(FigC).
Repeatsteps1–3toprepareallofyour
appliquéshapes.Carefullyremovethe
paperfrom the back of each shape.

Placeyourpreparedshapesontoyour
backgroundfabric,movingthepieces
arounduntilyou’rehappy.Referencethe
marks and dots on the templates to align
andcentrepieces.Then,followingthe
manufacturer’sinstructions,fusethe
piecesin place(FigD).If youhave
multiplelayers,youmayneedtoremove
thetoplayersandfusethebottomlayer
first,then place the top layer and fuse.

Stitcharoundtheouteredgeofthe
shapestosecurein place,eitherby
handormachine(FigE).Youcanusea
simplezig-zagorblanketstitch,orusea
runningstitchclosetotheedge.Youcan
alsotryfancierembroiderystitchesonce
you’re confident with the technique.
