There are no buttons on this

rainbow sweater, which is great

if you prefer an uncomplicated

knit. Instead, Jane has used

ribbing on the neckband for extra

stretch to get the jumper easily

over baby's head, and the sizes

are generous to allow a bit of

extra wriggle room all round.

Rainbow jumper

With RS facing, working on rem 18 (20:
22: 24) sts, slip next 9 (11: 1 3 : 15) sts
onto a stitch holder, rejoin yarn to rem

Work 3 rows, dec 1 st at neck edge in
every row AT THE SAME TIME dec 1 st
at raglan edge on next and foll alt row.

Fasten off.

Sleeves
Using 3 .25mm (UK 10, US 3 ) needles
and yarn A, cast on 28 (28: 28: 28) sts.
Rows 1-8 (10: 10: 10) *K2, p2; rep from

  Change to 4mm (UK 8, US 6) needles.
  Next row Increase 1 ( 3 : 3 : 5) sts.
  29 ( 3 1: 3 1: 33 ) sts
  Next row Purl.
  Working in stocking stitch throughout,
  increase one st at each end of 3 rd and
  every foll 5th row until you have 3 9 (45:

Sunshine patch

Using 3 .25mm (UK 10, US 3 ) needles

and Yarn C, cast on 42 sts.

Row 1 (WS) Purl.

Row 2 K 3 , (k4, k2tog) 6 times, k 3. 3 6 sts

Row 3 Purl.

Row 4 K2, (k 3 , k2tog) 6 times, k4. 3 0 sts

Row 5 Purl.

Row 6 K 3 , (k2, k2tog) 6 times, k 3. 24 sts

Row 7 Purl.

Row 8 K2, (k1, k2tog) 6 times, k4. 18 sts

Row 5 (P2tog) 9 times. 9 sts

Row 6 (K2tog) 4 times, k1. 5 sts

Cut yarn and thread through rem 5 sts,

pull tight to close centre of Sun.

Sew seam closed.

Using Yarn B, embroider on Eyes and

Mouth. Sew Sun to front of sweater and

using Yarn D, embroider on Rays.
