HAT

You’ll barely pause while

knitting up this quick aran

hat – the perfect gift for

a new arrival

Hat is worked fl at in rib and stocking
stitch, and decreased at the crown.
Nose is then embroidered using a
chart, and whiskers are stitched.
Pompom ears are added at the end.

Start knit ing...

With smaller needles and Contrast A,
cast on 72 (80-88) sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. P1. Rep from to
end of row.
2nd row: P1. K1. Rep from to end
of row.
Rep last 2 rows (K1. P1) ribbing once more.
Change to larger needles and
proceed in St st until work from beg
measures 7.5 (9-9.5)cm, ending on a
purl row.

Shape top
1st row: (RS). K7 (8-9). K2tog. Rep
from to end of row. 64 (72-80) sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: K6 (7-8). K2tog. Rep from
to end of row. 56 (64-72) sts.
5th row: K5 (6-7). K2tog. Rep from
to end of row. 48 (56-64) sts.
7th row: K4 (5-6). K2tog. Rep from
to end of row. 40 (48-56) sts.
9th row: K3 (4-5). K2tog. Rep from
to end of row. 32 (40-48) sts.
11th row: K2 (3-4). K2tog. Rep from
to end of row. 24 (32-40) sts.
13th row: K1 (2-3). K2tog. Rep from
to end of row. 16 (24-32) sts.

Sizes 12 and 18 to 24 mos only:
14th row: Purl.

15th row: *K(1-2). K2tog. Rep from * to

end of row. (16-24) sts.

Size 18 to 24 mos only:

16th row: Purl.

17th row: *K1. K2tog. Rep from * to

end of row. 16 sts.

All sizes:

Next row: Purl.

Next row: *K2tog. Rep from * to end

of row. 8 sts.

Break yarn, leaving a long end. Thread

end through rem sts and draw up

tightly. Fasten securely. Using end, sew

centre back seam.

Finishing

Lay Hat fl at, mark centre of Hat. Using

Contrast C and duplicate stitch,

embroider Heart Nose using Chart as

guide. Embroider whiskers with Contrast

C using straight stitch.

Pompoms

Make 2

Wind Contrast B around 3 fi ngers 80

times. Remove from fi ngers and tie

tightly in centre. Cut through each

side of loops. Trim to a smooth round

shape. Sew pompoms to either side of

Hat at top as shown in picture.
