Knit Now - UK (2020-01)

(Antfer) #1
This cosy set was originally part
of a folklore-inspired collection
way back in issue 30 of Knit
Now. It’s always been one of our
Editor Kate’s favourite patterns
so she thought it deserved a
comeback! The cowl and mitts are
both knitted in the round, using
stranded colourwork, which is
shown in a chart.

Stitch pattern

Le -leaning Latvian Braid
The braid is formed by purling
alternate colours, and the
direction of the chevrons depends
on how you bring in the new
yarn: over or under the yarn just
used. Your yarns will tend to get
very twisted together, so pause
whenever you need to so that you
can untangle. For an even braid,
keep your tension as uniform
as possible.
Rnd 1: *P1 MC, p1 CC1; rep
from * to end of rnd, each time
bringing new yarn over the yarn
just used.
Rnd 2: *P1 MC, p1 CC1; rep
from * to end of rnd, each time
bringing new yarn under the
yarn just used.

We think it’s a bit of a shame that once a
magazine goes out of print, the beautiful
pa erns inside are o en forgo en. Many
designers make their pa erns available
online but this one hasn’t been, so we’ve
brought it back!
Which pa erns from the archive would you
like to see make a return to our pages?

a fairly large Polish community.
On special occasions the girls
come in wearing their traditional
costumes, which o en feature
black bodices decorated with
ribbons and embroidery in bright
