For m e, cr och et a n d bloggin g sor t of ca m e
h a n d in h a n d. Back in 20 10 I wa s lookin g for a
n ew h obby a n d wa s h avin g a d abble wit h lot s
of diferent ideas and mediums. I knew back
t h en I wa n ted to st a r t a blog a n d ca m e up wit h
a ver y gen er a l blog ca lled Accord in g To M at t.

I wor ked on m y blog for a good few weeks,
bu t st a r ted to lose stea m wh en I r ea lised t h at
ot h er t h a n m y m u m ( bless h er), n ob od y wa s
act u a lly r ead in g it. I h ad n’t st a r ted wr it in g
t h is blog ju st for t h e p age views, bu t if
NOBODY wa s r ead in g it I cou ld n’t h elp
won d er in g “Wh at wa s t h e p oin t?”
I con sid er ed givin g up, bu t p er sever ed a
lit t le wh ile lon ger.
At a r ou n d abou t t h e sa m e t im e I h ad st a r ted
to d abble wit h cr och et , m y boyfr ien d at t h e t im e
wa s a ver y good cr och eter a n d I wa s m esm er ised
by t h e gor geou s cr eat ion s h e wa s m a kin g fr om
ju st a ba ll of ya r n a n d a h ook. Up u n t il t h at
m om en t m y on ly kn owled ge of cr och et wa s t h e
cr och eted p ood le t h at cover ed t h e loo r oll in m y

Am a zed a n d in t r igued I a sked h im to sh ow
me the ropes. I hated it at irst and threw quite
a tantrum when I couldn’t igure out how toh old ten sion to m y ya r n. My st itch es wer e
eit h er fa r too t igh t , or so baggy you cou ld get
lost wit h in t h em.
Not on e to b e d efeated I kept at it a n d b efor e
long I was happily making granny squares. I
loved making granny squares; they were the
p er fect b egin n er pr oject a s t h ey gave you
p ossibilit y to r ep eat st itch es over a n d over
aga in. Th ey a r e gr eat to p op in you r bag to
cr och et on t h e go a n d you ca n get m a ssively
creative with diferent pattern and colour
com bin at ion s, wh ich is exact ly wh at I d id.
In spir ed by t h e glor iou s colou r com bin at ion s
of Lucy at Attic24 I got cracking on my irst
cr och et pr oject , a glor iou s kin g-size bla n ket
made entirely out of granny squares.
I wa s so in sa n ely pr oud of m y bla n ket t h at I
took som e pict u r es a n d sh a r ed it on m y blog
(so m y m u m cou ld r ead it). Soon a fter p ost in g,
lo and behold, I received my very irst
com m en t fr om som eb od y (n ot m y m u m),
som ewh er e in t h e wor ld wh o wa s r ead in g a n d
in ter ested in m y cr och et wor k!

cr och et h a s b een such a n in tegr a l p a r t of m y life.
