Anniversary
surprise!
It was my mum and dad’s 20 th
wedding anniversary recently and
I made them a card using the number
designs from issue 261. I stitched the
fair y lights charts without the lights
and stitched the backstitch twice.
Daisy Pearson, Norfolk
Emily says: Happy anniversar y to your
parents, Daisy! They must have been
thrilled to receive
such a delightful
card from you.
Fiery finishes
Here are two Chinese phoenixes
that I stitched and had framed.
The one with the black
background was designed by
Fiona Baker for Crazy issue
243 – I had it framed in gold
and black. During the Lunar
New Year in Februar y last
year, I added greetings in gold
Chinese characters to a photo
of it to make my own
e-cards. The other is from
Bewitching Cross Stitch
by Joan Elliott, which was
borrowed from the librar y.
Monica Chong, Singapore
Alison says: Your f ramed
phoenixes are simply
stunning, Monica. Thanks
for sharing them with us!

Mixed media
I saw your question in issue 263 ,
asking about whether readers have
ever combined stitching with another
craft, and I wanted to share that
I have and often do! I stitch
cards and embellish them with
with papers, ribbons and gems
to make them extra special.
Here are a couple for you to see!
Karen Medler, Hevingham
Lou says: These craft combos look
great, Karen. Excellent work!
Full of heart
I wanted to show you this anniversar y
card that I designed for my husband.
The painting is a self-portrait, reduced
on a photocopier and superimposed
over organza fabric. I stitched hearts
and butterflies in pinks, creams
and gold and worked running stitch
around the edge of the painting.
I also designed another card to hold
my husband’s birthday gift – tickets
for a Tutankhamun exhibition!
I embellished the stitching with
calligraphic hieroglyphics.
Charmaine Fletcher, Basildon
Emma says: These are brilliant! You’ve
put in so much thought and effort.
