SANTANA
When Carlos Santana was
asked what keeps the
septuagenarian maestro of
spicy licks so preternaturally
young, he simply responded,
“I’m retired from retiring.” His
vegetable patch’s loss is
entirely our gain, because his
upcoming arena shows in
Glasgow, London and Dublin
will be life-affirming displays
of hip-shaking grooves and
guitar voodoo. And with
2020 marking 50 years
of Abraxas, there’s plenty
to celebrate.

Whole lotta brass:
Santana’s 1999 album
Supernatural nabbed him
eight Grammys in a
single evening
Dios de la guitarra: is ‘god
of the guitar’ in Spanish.
Impress Santana, bore
everyone else queuing to get
in with this information

When: March 26-29

SAXON
If you live, eat and breathe
denim and leather, firstly, see
a physician. After that, get
yourself down to this
storming trio of shows from
Barnsley’s finest. Saxon will
be joined by Black Star
Riders at Glasgow’s fabulous
Barrowlands Ballroom, while
their NWOBHM raids on
London and Manchester
will be aided by Krokus,
Diamond Head and
Girlschool. Phew...
Do: shout for (747)
Strangers In The Night
Don’t: ask to see Bede’s
Historia Ecclesiastica. It’s not
that kind of Saxon show
When: March 27-29

SAMANTHA FISH
There’s more than one Fish
in the sea and fiery
blues-rocker Samantha Fish
is no slouch. The six-stringer
from Kansas City has
jammed with blues royalty
Buddy Guy and Sonny
Landreth, as well as Alice
Cooper. So get on your
dancing shoes and turn up
for raucous grooves from
her cracking new
album Kill Or Be
Kind and even
more hellacious
blues.
Get your
mojo workin’:
by listening to
her single
Bullet-
proof
Keep
your
eyes
peeled:
for her
guitar
with a
fish-
shaped
sound hole.
Even Joe
Bonamassa
hasn’t got one
(probably)
When:
February
28-March 8

WILLIAM DUVALL
A soldier of fortune and
immeasurable talent,
Alice In Chains singer
William DuVall finally
got around to
recording a solo
album, One Alone,
last year and will be
setting off on an
intimate tour of
the UK and
Ireland in
March. Expect
songs that
run the
gamut of his
career, a
cover or
two and,
just maybe, a
few yarns from
his storied life.
Do: ask Bill
about the time
AIC’s Jerry
Cantrell
played bass in
his old band
Don’t: hang
around to buy
tickets. These
tiny shows will
soon sell out
When: March
27-April 1

THE MARCUS

KING BAND
A 15-year-old kid walks into
a bar and nearly gets
himself arrested handing
his demos to Gov’t Mule
guitarist Warren Haynes. No
jokes necessary, because
nine years after that fateful
encounter, hotshot guitarist
Marcus King is now tipped
as the brightest star in
Southern rock and soul.
Stick on your finest denims
then head down to a show
to find out why.
Check out: Goodbye
Carolina from the Grand Ole
Opry (yes, that one)
Pick up: recent 5 star-rated
solo album El Dorado. Just
do it and thank us later
When: February 21-28

Never mind the
pollocks: it’s
Samantha Fish.
