MARK
JEEVES
The best thing I’ve
heard recently Beth
Hart’s Sugar Shack is one of
those tracks that gets in your
head and follows you around all
day. I love it. I had an email
from a listener who likened her
passion and energy to Stevie
Nicks and I can hear that.

The best thing I’ve seen
recently:7KH%HDWOHVĦ'D\V
A Week. This popped up on
Amazon recently, and as I
PLVVHGLW¿UVWWLPHDURXQG,
thought I’d give it a go.

My favourite memory from 1980:^
Just a few weeks ago I lost my
excellent dad. As a kid I tried to
educate him in the ways of Rush
and explain how there was this
guy called Neil Peart who was
my total hero, but alas dad didn’t
like rock music one little bit, he
was a musicals man. However,
rather than discourage me, he
actually bought me a drum kit
IRU&KULVWPDVLQ$
gorgeous yellow Premier
Resonator. I still have the kit
and my memories of a top bloke,
'RXJ-HHYHV Rock on dad!

AND ME...

The best thing I’ve
heard recently:
An advance copy of the new
FM album, Synchronised. Just
RɱWKHEDFNRIWKHLU%,*
7RXUZLWK*XQDQG'DQ5HHG
Network, the boys already
have this one in the can. It’s
FM doing what they do best,
playing pure, unadulterated
AOR/melodic rock.

The best thing I’ve seen
recently: The Irishman on
1HWÀL['LUHFWHGE\0DUWLQ
Scorsese, and starring Robert
'H1LUR$O3DFLQRDQG-RH
Pesci, it tells the story of Frank
Sheeran, who recounts his time
as a hitman for a crime
syndicate.

My favourite memory from 1980:
Having seen Thin Lizzy with
'DYH)OHWWDQG0LGJH8UHDW
%LQJOH\+DOOLQ6WDɱRUGLQ
'HFHPEHU¶,UHWXUQHGWR
this iconic venue on Tuesday,
0D\WRVHHWKHQHZ
OLQHĥXSIHDWXULQJ 6 QRZ\:KLWH
on guitar. After the show, I was
lucky enough to be invited into
the dressing room once again to
meet the band: I still have the
fully signed photo from that

The best thing
I’ve heard recently:
Slipknot’s latest single Nero
)RUWH,W¶VEDVLFDOO\DKHDY\ĥDVĥ
hell pop song that makes me
laugh, shout, jump up and
down and then probably pull a
hamstring... all while grinning
IURPHDUĥWRĥHDU

The best thing I’ve seen
recently: I’m going to go for a
QRQĥPXVLFDORSWLRQDQGVD\7KH
Outsider on Sky One. If you’re a
fan of seriously creepy,
XQVHWWOLQJVWRPDFKĥFKXUQLQJ
HGJHĥRI\RXUĥVHDW 79 WKHQWKLV
is the show for you.

My favourite memory from 1980:^
Since I’m obviously far younger
than most of my colleagues I’m
going to have to go with my
RQO\PHPRU\RI,¶P
ashamed to say that in this
year I was the criminal
mastermind behind a crime
spree in which I was stealing
toys from kindergarten and
then depositing them at my
VDIHKRXVHĪKRPHī,
would’ve got away with
it, too, if it wasn’t for
those pesky kids
who grassed me up
to the teacher!

Creepy: Jason
Bateman in The
Outsider.

Rock on: Mark
Jeeves with
his beloved
drum kit.
