Planet Rock listeners show us their colours.
DATE OF BIRTH: 1979 WHEN RETIRED: 1983
WHERE FOUND: York, North Yorkshire
“I did every stitch on this myself,” says Chris Wright.
“I remember skulking around the shops to buy
embroidery thread without being spotted by
anyone I knew! When I went to uni in ’8 3 I left
it in my parents’ shed and only retrieved
it about 12 years ago when they
moved. It was a mouldy blob
of wet material, but it
came up great after

RAINBOW FULL METAL JACKET
“Down To Earth was the
album which got me into
heavy rock. I remember
headbanging to All Night
Long at school discos.
In later years I grew
to appreciate Dio-era
Rainbow, but Graham
Bonnet was my guy.”

MOTÖRHEAD
“I discovered
Motörhead with
Bomber, so was excited
about the release
of Ace Of Spades.
I saw them three
times around then, in
Bradford in ’79, and
three times in Leeds
in ’80/’81, including
the March ’81 show
at the Queen’s Hall
where No Sleep ’Til
Hammersmith was

MSG
“Michael Schenker was my favourite guitarist when he
was in UFO, and that carried through to his first solo
albums. I already had UFO embroidered on my jeans,
so MSG got this slot on the jacket. I drifted away from
hard rock when I went to university, but l still listen to
[UFO’s] Strangers In The Night.”

TYGERS OF
PAN TANG
“Like so many rock
fans of my age, the
New Wave Of British
Heavy Metal was a
huge deal to me. This
is the tiger from the
Spellbound album,
and I think it was
the challenge of
embroidering it which
encouraged me to
include it here.”

VAN HALEN
“The first Van
Halen album was
so different to
anything else I’d
ever heard in my
life up to that point.
I had no idea how
Eddie Van Halen
was making those
sounds, but it was
just fantastic.”

Don’t be shy. Raid that wardrobe, cellar or
loft and email us a photo of your old colours
to appear in the next issue of Planet Rock.
