BAD COMPANY
Feel Like Makin’ Love
(on Straight Shooter, 1975)
Paul Rodgers... what an incredible
voice! I’m actually more of a Free fan
than a Bad Company fan, but I’ve
always gravitated towards this song,
and it’s always been a song that I
thought the Crows could do a fantastic
cover of, making it heavier. In terms of
being seductive, it’s a lyric that makes
your feelings crystal clear.

LED ZEPPELIN
Whole Lotta Love
(on Led Zeppelin II, 1969)

back to being a teenager, sitting on the
sofa watching Top Of The Pops. I
remember watching it with a girlfriend
once and thinking it was cool to tell

Not sure how impressed she was. But
what a great tune. Zeppelin were
always brilliant with their choices of

THE BEATLES
Something
(on Abbey Road, 1969)

Beatles in music class in school,
because they’re the ‘go to’ band
when you’re learning about how to
construct a song, with the chord
changes, and the instrumentation

this song I thought, “Another Lennon
and McCartney masterclass”, and
then I found out it was a George

even the third songwriter in this
band is incredible!” As a singer
myself, I can hear how these vocals
are straight from the heart, and
it’s just beautiful. The Beatles
weren’t afraid to
try anything.

AC/DC
You Shook Me All Night

Again, there’s no mistaking the
message here. I probably

Thunderstruck, and then went

with past girlfriends as much as
some of the other artists I’ve
mentioned, but you can’t help being

RAY LAMONTAGNE
Let It Be Me
(on Gossip In The Grain, 2008)
I was brought up listening to
VLQJHUĥVRQJZULWHUVDVP\GDGZDVD
big country music fan and he’d listen
to Johnny Cash and all the country
legends. Ray Lamontagne is a great
storyteller, and you can tell this song
is completely from the heart, as all

the song shines through with it being
so stripped back. This was actually
my wedding song... but that marriage
ended in divorce, so I can’t say it’s a

I’ve seen them live.
Whenever I’m in a lift, and
a pretty woman gets in, this song
enters my head! I discovered
