Hitting the right note

Q

Have you done a musical instrument pattern? I really want
to stitch something I can gift to my son’s piano teacher.
She’s retiring next year after teaching for 40 years! She’s very
talented and has devoted so much time to her work. Thank you
for your time and hope you can help.

Hannah E: This is a fab way to celebrate such a dedicated
teacher, Caroline! We even have a whole Design Library
collection of patterns that could help – issue 206 featured a
fantastic set of musical-themed designs by Rhona Norrie, which
included a couple of pianos along with a whole host of other
musical instruments, notes and related ideas. Design Libraries are
so versatile, as they can be turned into all sorts of different
things. Don’t worry if you don’t have this copy – you can still buy
it as a digital back issue via our Android or Apple apps. We hope
your son’s teacher enjoys her well-deserved retirement!

Q

Where can I find a really good sunflower cross stitch chart
or kit? My daughter recently died of cancer at the age of

  1. Her favourite flower was a sunflower so I’m thinking of
stitching a sunflower in her memory. I can’t find a pattern with a
realistic and good size sunflower though – can you help please?
    Linda Heather, via Facebook

A

Hannah F: What a wonderful tribute to your daughter,
Linda – it certainly sounds like a fitting memorial stitch, and
sunflowers are so uplifting too. I love this ‘Bright Sunflowers kit’
(K-125) by Merejka, available from Stitcher* for £38.99 RRP.
Featuring a row of five golden sunflowers, the kit includes
Zweigart 16-count white aida, DMC threads and needle along
with the chart and instructions. The stitched design measures
approx. 24x43cm (9½x17in), making it a good size to be framed
and displayed pride of place to remember your daughter by.
