Project Notre Dame

DESIGNED BY CAROL THORNTON
Marvel at one of the most beautiful buildings in the world
as you stitch this architectural masterpiece
of Paris
A
rguably the finest example of
French Gothic architecture,
the Notre Dame Cathedral is
one of the most widely recognised
monuments in the world. At the heart
of Paris, this iconic building stands
mightily on the banks of the River
Seine. It’s been a year since the tragic
fire, but you can still see the strength
of the structure in what remains.
Although the cathedral is sadly
closed until further notice, with
Carol’s majestic vision you can still
visit this historic structure. Here we
see the epic south façade and nave
of Notre Dame against bright blue
skies. There are lots of techniques to
challenge you, from the use of seed
beads to draw attention to the tall
spire, to the French knots that add
texture to the surrounding foliage.
As you restore Notre Dame to its
former glory in stitches, we have a
hunch that you’ll enjoy every moment
as you’re transported back in time to
this breathtaking view.

Fa c t b detail
I designed this one year on from the
devastating fire to celebrate the ongoing
resurgence of Notre Dame. I used metallic
threads as well as beads to try to capture the
spirit and light of this glorious building.
