ASUS’S BILLBOARDLAPTOPLID

Weirdly, themost interesting thing about the Asus ROGZephyrus G14 gaming laptop is the lid.
That’s nottodownplayhow it packs in oneofAMD’s brand-newRyzen 4800U mobile
processors, its 120Hz displayrefresh rateoritsoverclocked
GeForceRTX2060 GPU, but the light-up lid is
something truly unique.
Nearly halfofit is covered in LEDs
–1,215ofthem,tobe exact–and you
canhavethese displayalogo ortextof
your choosing. It’sanice wayof
personalising your laptop without having
toplaster it in stickers, although the
LEDs are limitedtoafew hundred shades
ofwhiteratherthanbeing in colour.
This displayadds about 100g
ofweight, though you can get a
Zephyrus G14 without it as well.
There’s no pricingavailable,but a
March launch is on the cards.

OLDDELL

FAVOURITE

RETURNS

New versionsofthe Dell XPS 13 are
rarely surprising, yet still worth looking
forwardto–few other laptop lines are
as consistently well crafted. Dell had the
new model on the stands at CES, and
although manyofthe upgrades are
likelytobe routinefor2020 upgrades
–Intel 10th-gen chips, Wi-Fi6support
and so on–therewasacompletely new
emphasis on displayquality.
Forone,the laptopnow adopts a
taller 16:10 aspect ratio,sothere’s more
roomforreadingwithout needingto
scroll, and if you plumpforthe 4K
version (which runs at 3,840x2,400;
there are also cheaper 1,920x1,200
models), it will also support HDR400
and can allegedly cover 90%ofthe
DCI-P3 colour gamut.
This could provetobeakeyupgrade
toan already greatformula.We’llfind
outforsurewhen it launches in the
UK later this year.

TVsOFTHE FUTURE
There was plentyoftelevisiontech on show, even if mostofit wasofamore aspirational
nature than what you’d normally see on store shelves. The LG Signature OLEDR(below)
isaprime example. This flexible,8K, 65in OLED screen rolls outofits boxy housing,
rolling back in when not in use like an inverted projector screen.Very cool, but also very
expensive,withastarting priceof$60,000 (£47,600).
Samsung also provided more detailsofits seriesofMicroLED TVs. MicroLED isanew
kindofscreentech where millionsoftiny LEDs reproduce an image directly and, like OLED,
can produce perfect blacksbyswitching themselvesoff. However, what’smost striking
about TheWall,Samsung’s first major implementationofMicroLED,isits sheer size,with
both 88in and gargantuan 150invariants being planned.
