The Goldfinch

The 13-year-old Theodore Decker (Oakes
Fegley) escapes a terrorist attack, which
nonetheless claims his mother (Hailey Wist)’s
life, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in
New York. While there, he steals a Dutch
painting called The Goldfinch, a move with
disturbing repercussions.

FIVE FACTS:

  1. Ansel Elgort plays Theodore – “Theo” –
as a young man, while Nicole Kidman is
    Samantha Barbour, the wealthy socialite
mother who takes in the orphaned Theo.

  2. This film is an adaptation of Donna
    Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 2013 novel
    The Goldfinch.

is by the Dutch Golden Age artist Carel
Fabritius and dated 1654, the year of
    his death.

  4. The painting is actually held by the
Mauritshuis art museum in the Netherlands
city of The Hague, but temporarily exhibited
in New York in both the film and the book.

  5. Filming was split between New York City
    and Albuquerque.
