HDR images the easy way

Bracket automatically

When you know your processing plan, it’s good to
make sure that what you do in-camera doesn’t make
it harder. I recommend using your camera’s AEB
(Auto Exposure Bracketing) menu to take your
bracketed photos. The number of brackets is
personal taste: I generally use three at two-stop
intervals, but do whatever you feel works.

hile most photographers
generally work on
one image at a time,
sometimes you need
to apply settings across
multiple images. These may be for
similar images, or for a set of photos
that need a particular look. There are
many ways to do this using Sync, Copy
and Paste Settings or via Presets.
Lightroom CC recently added features
that make batch-processing HDR and
panorama merges much easier. If you do
a lot of HDR, these will take the pain out
of selecting the images to be merged,
as well as processing them in a queue.
Previously you had to select each image
set, then start the merge, choose the
settings, press Return, and then move
to the next set to start all over again.
The benefit of processing HDR in
Lightroom rather than via an HDR plugin
is that the Lightroom-generated HDR file
is a full raw file you can edit, changing
white balance or exposure, for example.
