ortrait photo editing is all often about creating
atmosphere and making the subject stand out,
and there are a plethora of ways to achieve this.
Blending Modes, Adjustment Layers and duplicated
layers can help you create special and unique
effects in Photoshop; understanding these tools is the secret
behind many of the creative effects you’ll see in use with all
types of images, not least portraits.
The photographic process is full of paradoxes, both at the
shooting and editing stages: in these four techniques, I’ll be
exploring some of these by using black-and-white layers combined
with Blending Modes and other layers to create portrait effects
in both colour and black and white. Some will be more obvious
than others, while some will undoubtedly surprise you, but
what I can guarantee is that all four will provide creative
ways to give your portraits an eye-catching finish.
