GET THE LOOK

High contrast
Click on the Create New Fill Or
Adjustment Layer icon in the
Layers panel, and select Black
& White. Close the dialog box that appears,
and change the layer’s Blending Mode to
Overlay. Add a Curves
Adjustment Layer and
move the black point in
the bottom-left corner
up to 25, before putting
points 1/4, 1/2 and
3/4 of the way up
the original position
of the curve.

Warm desaturation
Create a Black & White
Adjustment Layer and set the
Blending Mode to Screen. Press
Ctrl/Cmd+J to duplicate the layer; set the
Blending Mode of this
layer to Multiply. Hold
down Ctrl/Cmd+Shift
+Alt+E to merge all
visible layers into a
new one; change its
Blending Mode to
Lighten. Delete the two
Black & White layers.

Custom mono
Click on the Create New Fill
Or Adjustment Layer icon
and select Black & White. In
the dialog box, set Reds to 85, Yellows to
10, Cyans to 150, Blues
to 115 and Magentas
to 160. Add a Levels
Adjustment Layer and
set the Output Levels
to 40 and 195. Set the
Opacity of this layer
to 40% to reduce
the effect.

Dreamy glow
Duplicate the Background
Layer, and press Ctrl/Cmd
+Shift+U to desaturate. Go to
Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur, set Radius to
35 Pixels and click OK. Set the Blending
Mode of this layer to
Overlay. On a Curves
Adjustment Layer,
make a reverse S-curve
to reduce contrast and
click OK. Shift-click on
the blurred layer, press
Ctrl/Cmd+G to Group
and set Opacity to 75%.
