Use anchor points
When you’ve highlighted a
selection, it’s marked by anchor points.
Tap and hold one of these to adjust the
amount of text that’s highlighted. This
can snap to the end of lines, or drag
slowly for fine–grained control.

Instant highlighting
Want to edit or remove a word?
Double–tap it to highlight it. If you want
to highlight a whole sentence, triple–
tap a word in that sentence. And if you
need to highlight the entire paragraph,
it’s a quadruple tap.

Undo and redo
Made a mistake? Swipe right to
left with three fingers to undo the most
recent change. If you need to redo it,
swipe left to right with three fingers.
Alternatively, a double–tap with three
fingers also undoes the last action.

Tap and swipe
Instead of double–tapping a
word, you can tap one end of it then
quickly tap and drag across it in one
fluid motion. This is useful for selecting
text within a sentence. It takes a little
getting used to but is handy to know.

Multiselect files
To select multiple files at once
in apps like Mail, Notes and Files, tap
and hold two fingers on the screen,
then drag over the items you want to
select. A check appears over them. Tap
it or drag again to add or remove items.

Intelligent selection
Intelligent selection can help
to edit addresses, phone numbers, or
email addresses. Just double–tap part
of the contact info to highlight all of it.
Note: this doesn’t work if you’ve broken
up an address with hard returns.

CUT, COPY AND PASTE WITH GESTURES

These key tools are made easier with a swipe

It’s quick and easy to cut, copy and paste using the new gestures in iOS 13 and
iPadOS. To copy a selection, highlight it then pinch inwards with three fingers. It’ll
be copied to your clipboard. If you want to cut the selection, pinch inwards with
three fingers twice; it’ll disappear, having been added to your clipboard. When
you’re ready to paste it, spread three fingers outwards. Alternatively, highlight
a selection, then press and hold three fingers on the screen. This places icons for
cut, copy, paste, undo, and redo at the top of your screen.
