Rose & Grey

http://www.roseandgrey.co.uk

Rose & Grey’s classy-looking furniture
and homeware retail site takes some
obvious cues from Net-A-Porter. As well
as experimenting with Pinterest, it uses
the Instagram hashtag #myroseandgrey
and handpicks customer images for its
homepage gallery. It also has a useful
Trends section that looks at must-haves
for the season, grouping suitable
products in a filterable list. There’s a
great – if infrequently updated – blog
that, despite being rather hidden, has
some inspiring tips and articles. What’s
more, the furniture descriptions are as
comprehensive as they come, right down
toprintabledimensionsheets.

Without Waste
http://www.withoutwaste.co.uk
Every product available on Without
Waste is plastic-free and designed to be
reusable, so it’s worth taking a look if
you’re worried about unsustainable
landfill. There’s plenty to buy, including
household, personal, baby and travel
goods, all professionally photographed
and with their benefits to you and the
environment clearly explained. Adding to
your cart and checking out with PayPal is
quick and simple, but the item categories
would be better spread across the
navigation bar rather than squirrelled
away in a drop-down Shop menu. Also,
you have to resize the browser to be able
toreadtheAboutUshomepage.

STV News
news.stv.tv
By overhauling its digital output,
television channel STV has created a
news hub to rival the best the Scottish
press can offer. The homepage includes
lots more stories, all neatly sectioned and
tagged to make navigation a breeze.
Many of the articles are accompanied by
videos and there are links to four specific
regions for those looking for more local
news. One standout feature is a live
feed of the latest breaking stories in
chronological order, complete with links
to read more. You can also browse the
most read articles of the day and week,
check out the top-watched videos and
followthecurrenttrendingstories.

HE A LTH

Cancer Survival Rates
cancersurvivalrates.com
We can see the point in Cancer
Survival Rates, the US-based website
that addresses the question: “How
long have I got?”. But while it makes
cancer prognosis more accessible –
enter your age, cancer stage, timing
of diagnosis and histology – it’s
jarringly stark and matter-of-fact.
Part of the problem is a lack of
background information about each
cancer, and the option to share the
link on text, email and social sites
feels a bit odd, too. But if all you
want is unvarnished info, it’s certainly
a quick way to get a ballpark figure,
albeit basedon US data.
