An affordable Android smartphon

with features beyond its price

a fully charged phone with a
screen brightness of 170cd/m^2
until the battery gives up. This,
too, is a step above its rivals.
The phone’s array of
cameras consists of the
aformentioned 64-megapixels
model (though shots are
taken at 16 megapixels as
standard); an 8-megapixel
119-degree wide-angle lens,

sit slightly raised, which makes
the phone a little unstable
when placed on a flat surface,
while round the front there’s a
small droplet-style notch to
house the front-facing camera.
The 6.4in AMOLED screen still
covers 91.9% of the phone’s
front area, though, and when
you tap the blank screen, a
glowing fingerprint shows you
where to place your finger
when you want to wake it.
As with every AMOLED
screen we’ve put through our
suite of tests, the Realme X2’s
results were excellent. In our
colour tests, it recreated 100%
of the sRGB colour pallette,
and we recorded a maximum
brightness of 431cd/m^2 , which
is much brighter than similarly
priced rivals. This type of
screen achieves perfect
blackness, too, so its contrast
is perfect.
It didn’t set our
performance tests alight in
the same way, though its
generous 8GB of memory
(and 128GB of storage, further
expandable with a microSD
card) helped it outperform
similarly priced models in our
Geekbench 4 tests. If you’re a
games enthusiast, we’d
recommend spending more
on a phone with a faster
processor but, for the price,
the X2 beat its rivals here, too.
Its GFXBench results of 40fps
in the off-screen Manhattan 3
test are almost twice as good
as the same test performed
on phones from Huawei,
Motorola and Samsung in the
same price range.

Battery and cameras
The X2’s 4,000mAh battery
lasted for 21hrs 55mins in our
standard battery rundown
test, in which a video plays on

a portrait camera for blurring
backgrounds and a macro
lens for close-ups. Outside, in
bright light, the main camera
manages to capture a lot of
detail. However, to take
advantage of the maximum
64-megapixel resolution, you
have to enable it in the camera
settings, or photos will be
shot at 4,608 x 3,456 pixels.

F

lagship phones from
manufacturers such as
Samsung and Apple
carry price tags of over
£1,000, so you might think an
Android phone costing a
quarter of that is bound to
lack some key features.
However, the Realme X2
boasts an impressive list of
specifications, including a
64-megapixel main camera,
6.4in AMOLED screen,
in-display fingerprint reader
and large 4,000mAh battery.
