Now,typeselect disk^1 followed by the ‘Disk###’
number displayed in Command Prompt. Donotselectyour
harddrivebecausethiswillsetupa fulldiskwipe.When
yousee‘Disk[number]is nowtheselecteddisk’,^2 typeclean.(^3) ThecomputernowcleanstheUSBdriveentirely,andyouget
themessage‘DiskPartsucceededin cleaningthedisk’.^4

After cleaning, you need to make sure your computer can
‘see’ your memory stick. Try following steps 2 and 3 or,
alternatively,searchWindowsforDiskManagement–
whichdisplaysin theresultsas‘Createandformatharddisk
partitions’.TheUSBwon’tappearin theupperlist^1 butis
shownin thebottomhalfofthescreenasUnallocated.^2

Right-clicktheUSBdriveandchooseNewSimpleVolume
(^1) tobegintheWizardwalkthrough. (^2) Determine the disk’s
size (in MB) and click Next. Click ‘Assign the following
drive letter’ and, in the drop-down menu, select a drive letter
not used by any other drive on your computer. On the next
screen, choose to format the partition. Click Next, then Finish.

YourUSBstickis nowvisiblein FileExplorer– it should
benamedNewVolumeandfeaturethedriveletteryou
assignedtoit.^1 To keep the device ship-shape,

This free tool lets you scan and manage your USB stick,
returning it to its original condition.

Oncethescanis complete,you’refreetodouble-
clickyourdevicetoviewanydatastoredonit.^1
ClickingBack^2 letsyourescanthedevice.If you’re
satisfiedwiththeresults,clickFinish.^3 If partitioning doesn’t
work, press Data Recovery. In the ribbon menu, select your USB
stick in the list of drives, then click Scan.

Onthetool’smainscreen,selectPartitionRecovery.^1
On the following screen, click Next to begin the step-by-
step process. Highlight your USB stick – it’s typically
beneath your hard drive – then press Next again. Under
Scanning Range, select Full Disk, then click Next. For Scanning
Methods, choose Full Scan. Leave the tool to scan the device.
