Referring to Diagram 5, align
two marked solid white squares
with opposite corners of a solid teal
61 ⁄ 4 " square. Sew a scant^1 ⁄ 4 " from drawn
lines on both sides of lines. Cut apart
on drawn lines to make two triangle
units (Diagram 6). Press triangle
units open.

Referring to Diagram 7, align
a marked solid white square
with solid teal corner of a triangle
unit. Sew a scant^1 ⁄ 4 " from each side
of drawn line; cut apart on drawn
line (Diagram 8). Press solid white
triangles open to make two Flying
Geese units. Each unit should be 3× 51 ⁄ 2 "
including seam allowances. Repeat
with remaining triangle unit to make
two additional Flying Geese units.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 to make 36
Flying Geese units total.

Referring to Diagram 9, sew
together a solid white 3× 51 ⁄ 2 "
rectangle and a Flying Geese unit to
make Unit C. The unit should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 "
square including seam allowances.
Repeat to make 36 C units total.

Referring to Diagram 10, sew
solid white small triangles to
opposite edges of a solid red 4"
square. Press open attached triangles.
Join solid white small triangles to
remaining edges; press open to make
Unit D. The unit should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 " square
including seam allowances. Repeat to
make nine D units total.

Referring to Diagram 11, sew solid
aqua small triangles to adjacent
edges of a solid white 3" square. Press
attached triangles open to make
a triangle unit. Add a solid white
large triangle; press open to make
Unit E. The unit should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 " square
including seam allowances. Repeat to
make 16 E units total.

Sew together two red triangle-
squares and two solid white
3" squares in pairs (Diagram 12).
Join pairs to make Unit F. The unit
should be 5^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make 16
F units total.

ASSEMBLE BLOCKS

Referring to Diagram 13, lay out
three solid white 5^1 ⁄ 2 " squares;
eight gray triangle-squares; four
each of units A, B, and C; and one
each of units D and E in five rows.
Sew together pieces in rows. Join rows
to make Block 1. The block should
be 25^1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam
allowances. Repeat to make four total
of Block 1.
